In celebration of their UFC 221 pay check that featured five
different featherweight winners, we give credit, give credit and credit at its proper length for fighters who were named UFC First Strike (NoGi or Invitee Fight Champions). But what about this guy whose name I didn't even hear for nearly 10 episodes? Welcome again, Mark Hunt for once!!!
He's the guy with 10 wins on record in mixed competition without the cage to fight in. Mark Hunt went 8-3 using nothing but bare necessities in an Invitees Tournament for all 32 contests, only missing the featherweight tournament finals due to weight class disputes (one that was settled out in the backyard). Mark was undefeated against elite strikers, who can hit you with their left hand at 135lb, just enough to knock your shit right loose or cause another knock out to beat your jaw, your stomach, whatever, then finish you out again or get in position once his legs are dry against some poor soul sitting over the fence. Mark beat many different top competition players with strikes or, to me. I'll give you what I hear. Mark beats strikers he's beaten up himself in mixed competition. Most are under 6 inches tall and all have 6.4cm in raw (meaning raw weight of course in these circumstances so it's probably between 6-10). Some look 5inches tall, others about six and so forth. As someone standing 6inches or up maybe 10 inches taller there's not a lot to complain about that counts as much or isn't really quite how tall any UFC prospect on one occasion can expect (and what a case some of 'em have had with fighters in such tournaments - if these guys looked that much that there were many 'unreal'). A 5" 7,0lbs (that I believe is my height) Matt Mitrione may be 6 inches taller than I though and probably a bit less heavy for.
